NYSE Vintage Open 3 – ALL Decklists, Video, and Metagame Report

NYSE 3 is safely in the rear view mirror, and was another great showing of Vintage love and dynamism, with the event selling out all available 150 seats. With an entrance fee of $100 limiting the field to players serious about their Vintage craft, the field was turbo-charged with many of America’s most dedicated players, voyaging from far and wide across the country to Long Island, New York (USA). Community stalwart Nick Detwiler (aka Prospero) continues to do a masterful job promoting and supporting Vintage, and it should come as no surprise that this tournament showcased the continued resurgence of interest in Vintage in North America.

After the success of our recent Prague Eternal weekend in July, we have decided to run an additional large event later this year! We are proud to present to you:

GenCon 2014 Friday Vintage – Decklists, Metagame Breakdown, and Pictures

Magic at GenCon 2014 was a mild success, and the largest of the Vintage tournaments was held on Friday, August 15 2014. With the move of Vintage and Legacy Champs events offsite to the new ‘Eternal Weekend’ in Philly there were fewer players than in years past, but people still traveled from as far as California and the Carolinas in to Indianapolis in order to spar in the gentlemen’s format. Friday’s event drew 62 players to battle for an invite to the GenCon Invitational (where you win an all-expenses paid trip to next year’s GenCon), as well as various mediocre sealed product.

We’ve posted the Top 16 decklists in the first section, then noted all decks by player for a metagame breakdown in the next section, and then added pictures from our Twitter feed from our live coverage of the event in the final section.

My name is Jan “ZUZY” Zuskac, and I am from Czech Republic. I have been playing Magic for about 14 years now. I started with Extended, and at that time I bought my first Japanese cards. Since that time I have been “pimping” my decks, and as the cards gets older they move into the realm of Vintage. I love Vintage, but it is not played as often as I would like, so I also play Legacy.

After I bought my first Power 9 cards I disappointingly found out that there were no Vintage tournaments in all of Czech Republic! That was about 7 years ago, but now there is the Czech Vintage and Legacy Series – 6 tournaments in Prague, Brno, and Pribram.
