Their tournaments define (somehow) what’s trendy in Legacy and what’s not. It inspires us to write about Legacy and we hope it inspires you guys to play better.

Anyways, we just wanted to share with you guys the official announcement of the 2011 Starcitygames.com Open Series. Get ready for some serious Draft/Standard/Legacy action coming up next year. Right after the break all the information that SCG has provided:

Instant Analysis – SCG Charlotte $5K Legacy

Instant Analysis Charlotte

As the leaves turn warm shades of yellow, orange, and red, and the temperature cools this early fall, the Legacy scene continues to burn brightly. The StarCityGames Charlotte Legacy $5K tournament was held this weekend, and 147 competitors with decks in hands traveled to Charlotte (North Carolina, USA) to compete for $5,000 in prizes and to earn more SCG Open Series points towards the huge tournament later this year.

Relative SCG circuit newcomer Nicholas Spagnolo fought through 8 rounds of Swiss and then an action packed Top 8 to win the title of SCG Charlotte champion. He did it by piloting an innovative UG Vengevine Survival deck, tricked-out with 4 Trinket Mage and a small package of utility cards that the Mage could fetch. While we are seeing Survival decks continue to mutate and blossom, what else did we learn from this tournament that we can apply in the next couple of months? Find out after the jump!

These included UG Survival, WG Survival, and Necrotic Ooze Survival. Check out the entire Top 16 decklists after the jump!

Star City Games – Charlotte LIVE Broadcast!

The next stop of the Star City Games Open Series circuit is taking place this weekend in Charlotte, NC, and here you’ll find the LIVE broadcasts of both Standard and Legacy SCG $5K events. Will Survival of the Fittest dominate the Legacy event like at the last SCG $5K stop? Stay tuned to see what happens!

As bonus coverage, we can add that today in the LCL (Catalan Legacy League, Barcelona – 100 players), 3 Survival decks made Top 8. Despite another impressive showing for Survival of the Fittest, the 2 players that made it into the Finals were piloting CounterTop Bant (one with Natural Order and one without).

Right after the break you can follow the chat and read more facts about the Legacy Event (as soon as the information is being released).

Focus on Legacy – Combating Survival

Combating Survival of the Fittest

During the recent coverage of StarCityGames Nashville Legacy $5K event SCG writer called for the banning of Survival of the Fittest. OOOOOOH GOD, a deck has taken the SCG circuit by storm! We had better take immediate corrective action and ban something! Now I think we can all recognize that Survival is a fantastic card, but is it really ban-worthy? Let’s take a look at this, and various ways to combat Survival after the jump.

2011 Grand Prix Circuit Includes 2 Legacy GP Events

The 2011 Grand Prix Schedule has been released today and the Eternal players everywhere can rejoice. With the success of the Legacy GP’s from this year (including GP Madrid’s record-breaking turnout), Wizards of the Coast has decided to keep the ball rolling with 2 more Legacy stops this coming year.

One will take place in Providence (Rhode Island, USA, May 28-29) and the other one in Amsterdam (Holland – Europe, date to be determined). We hope to see great attendances at both GP’s, so you better start testing!

After the break you’ll find the complete 2011 GP Schedule.

Stephen Menendian Goes from SCG to Quiet Speculation

One of the few Vintage writers and also probably one of the best Eternal writers, Magic guru Stephen Menendian, and his column “So Many Insane Plays” are moving from the well known Star City Games website to the new and very interesting Quiet Speculation.com.

The good news is that to replace Menendian’s column StarCityGames are bringing in both Brian Demars and Andy Probasco, both excellent players and well respected for their Vintage and Legacy theory and results among the Eternal Magic community (especially on TMD).

We encourage all of you to keep the track of these excellent writers at Quiet Speculation, as they promise really high-quality articles there. After the break there’s an excerpt and link to Steve’s first article on Quiet Speculation.

A New Take on Legacy Dredge!

Legacy is a format that is constantly in flux. Tons of decks are viable and therefore it’s very hard to attack or defend the format from one specific angle. A lot of people dislike this characteristic of Legacy (and old Extended formats), but I think it’s great.

Nowadays Vengevine Madness is slowly starting to dominate, and various decks and their sideboards are adapting to help fight the Vengevine menace, and are tailoring graveyard hate specifically for attacking this threat. This is great news for Dredge since people are now packing graveyard hate that is quite weak against Dredge. After the jump let’s take a look at the available options that are most often played.

Eternal Weekend 2010 (Madrid) – Legacy Coverage and News!

After the succes of yesterday’s Vintage event, today’s Legacy tournament generated a lot of expectation to see how many people would gather in Madrid. So, it’s now official: 293 players are fighting for the Legacy prices through the 9 swiss rounds + top8!

Due to a very tight schedule of some of the Top8 players, they’ve split the prizes for the whole Top8! Each Top8 player will get an average of 12.5 dual lands. Congratulations then to the 8 winners!

Juan José Rodriguez (Solidarity)
David López (Dark Threshold)
Sergio Matesanz
Juanmi Carrascosa (WG Survival)
Iñaki Puigdollers (TES)
Juan Tamargo (Merfolks)
Luis Martín
Alex del Valle (TES)

We will be sharing any kind of information that we can get, so stay tuned! As usual, you’ll find the latest results provided by the the organization right after the break.

Pimp My Deck – BUG Landstill, by piZZero

It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted a full deck! Leaving my combo decks behind and moving to control was a tough but wise decision. I’m currently loving the BUG Landstill JACO presented few months ago (Primer + SB strategies, forum discussion). Even though the deck isn’t 100% pimp’d as I’d like to (still missing 3 Foil Japanese Innocent Blood; help needed here!), I’m really happy and proud to present you my legacy deck:
